James Eugene Murphy, 79, of Rotonda West, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at his home, with his loving family at his side.
He was born April 14, 1935, in Detroit, Mich., to James and Lucille (nee Smith) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1953 to 1961. He retired from the Detroit Police Department with 22 years of service, as a Sergeant. James was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Grove City, Fla. He truly enjoyed his visits from his family, and reading Michael Connelly mystery novels.
James will be greatly missed by his wife of 59 years, Nancy; five children, Jaime (Marlo) Murphy of Elkton, Mich., Jenny Murphy of Grand Blanc, Mich., Sarah (Rick) Vincenzetti of Highland, Mich., Joseph (Heather) Murphy of Highland, and Robert (Amy) Murphy of Rotonda West; two sisters, Joan (Jim) Sall of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Jean Murphy of Highland; brother, Larry (Margaret) Murphy of Rotonda West; brother-in-law, Ron Cunningham of Elkton; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Cunningham.
