Robert Edmond Sims, 82, of Englewood, Fla., passed away Wednesday May 7, 2014, at Englewood Hospital, following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Tampa, Fla.
Robert was a retired Chief Petty Officer, USN. After over 21 years of active service in the United States Navy, he retired in October of 1972. During that service he participated in four campaigns in Korea, and five campaigns in Vietnam. As a teenager he was also active with the Florida National Guard.
He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Elizabeth Ann Sims; children, Robert William Sims, Mark Edmond Sims, Anthony Lee Sims, Lisa Ayers Greene, and Brenda (neeSims) Brown; grandchildren, Justin Edmond Sims, Erica Brittany Sims, Cailin Elizabeth Sims, Hannah Lee Sims, and Chase Daniel Sims; and brothers, Donald Andrew Sims, and Walter Leonard Sims.
Friends and neighbors are welcome at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home in Englewood. A memorial and celebration of life will follow at 3 p.m. Robert will be buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
