James J. Canny

James J. Canny, 87, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Clare Bridge of Venice in Venice, Fla.

He was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Binghamton, N.Y.

Jim was an U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of Syracuse University. Jim had a very successful career in sales and marketing with IBM, Xerox Corporation, Holiday Inn and Michael Saunders & Company. He was a volunteer with Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Peace River Hospital for many years. Jim was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jim was known for his friendly, optimistic nature and left a great impression on all of those who were fortunate to know him.

He is survived by his five daughters, Julie Mathis, Gayle (Vince) Goulding, Midge (Mark) Lightbody, Chris (Mark) LoManto and Colleen (Tom) Hinsberg; and eight granddaughters. Jim is joining his beloved wife of 62 years, Peggy, who preceded him in death 6 months ago.
