Walter M. Wardell Jr.

Walter M. Wardell Jr., 78, of Allendale, N.J., and Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, June 6, 2014.

He was born in Richmond Hill, N.Y., and raised in Ramsey, N.J.

Walter was a graphic designer and a graduate of Parsons School of Design. After serving in the U.S. Army, he had a long career running his own design firm in New York City, N.Y. In 1998 he retired and moved from his longtime home in Allendale, N.J., to Englewood.

In his retirement he was a member of the Friends of the Elsie Quirk Library, for which he designed and produced their award-winning quarterly newsletter as well as many fliers, leaflets and bookmarks. In 2008, the organization presented Walter with their Star Award, honoring him for his volunteer work for them.

Walter is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Wardell; two sons, David Wardell and Steven Wardell, both of Englewood; daughter, Beth Wardell, of Rotonda, Fla.; granddaughter, Melissa Campbell; brothers, John (Jane) Wardell and Bruce (Ginny) Wardell; sister, Jean Wardell; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Friends of the Elsie Quirk Library, 100 West Dearborn Street, Englewood, FL 34223, or Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
