Joseph W. “Joe” Sullivan Jr., of Englewood, Fla., and formerly of North Andover, Mass., passed away peacefully Saturday, May 17, 2014.
He was the son of Joseph and Marion (nee Wood) Sullivan Sr.
Joseph graduated from North Andover High School, and attended Franklin Institute in Boston, Mass., where he studied photography. He retired to Englewood in 2000, after 40 years of employment at Lucent Technologies, formerly AT&T and Western Electric Co. Joe worked as a special police officer in North Andover, and was also a Ham Radio Operator with the Civil Defense for many years.
Before retiring to Florida, Joseph was a past member of the Andover Sportsman’s Club. For many years, he also was a member of the Harverhill Hound Rod & Gun Club, where he served as treasurer and was on the board of directors. In 1990, he received a trophy for winning the Massachusetts State Championship for Trap Shooting in Class D. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. Joe owned and operated Sullivan Photography, where he took photos at weddings and retirement parties, and was also the owner of Sullivan’s Shooter Shop in North Andover. Shortly after moving to Englewood, he joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 87, and received his five-year pin. He also enjoyed shooting trap at Sarasota Trap Skeet and Sporting Clays Club.
Joe leaves behind his wife, Rena (nee Bernard) Sullivan; daughters, Darlene Weeks of Haverhill, Mass., Colleen (Timothy) Willett of Bradford, Mass., and Shannon Sullivan of Haverhill; grandson, Jared Riccardi of North Andover; sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Donna Hopping.
Services were held in North Andover, with burial at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Boxford, Mass. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be made to www.contefuneralhomes.com.
