Darl J. Root, 78, died Friday, June 27, 2014.
He was born May 28, 1936.
Darl moved to Englewood, Fla., in 1968, as a carpenter, and became a general contractor in 1979, building custom homes from Boca Grande, Fla., to North Manasota Key, Fla. In 1986, he moved to Murphy, N.C., where he was a supervisor for Soloff Contruction Co., building Super Walmarts and shopping malls from Tennessee to Texas. His best project was the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga, Tenn. Darl retired and moved back to Englewood in 1994, where he set up his workshop and became a master craftsman, building grandfather clocks, roll-top jewelery boxes and custom wood furniture.
He is survived by his wife, Mina (nee McCrany) Root; sons, Martin J. (Diana) Root, Russell (Tina) Root, John Beach of Palm Beach, Fla., and Jim Beach of Boca Raton, Fla.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
