Eileen Baker Johnston, 94, of Englewood, Fla., died peacefully Monday, July 14, 2014, in her home.
She was born April 26, 1920, in Clarks Hill, Ind., to Fred and Grace Baker.
Eileen grew up in West Lafayette, Ind., as the fourth of five daughters. She spent the last 30 years living in Englewood, but she lived other chapters of her life in Indiana, Missouri, New York, Georgia and Belgium. Eileen proudly served as a sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. After her military service, she attended and graduated from Purdue University, where she met and married George Johnston, her husband of 66 years.
Eileen is survived by her husband, George; her son, Stephen (Julia) Johnston of Marietta, Ga.; her daughter, Janna Johnston of Melbourne, Fla.; and her four grandchildren, Stephen and James Johnston, and Hunter and Jade Warn.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the service time at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Englewood Community Funeral Home, 3070 S. McCall Road, Englewood. Burial will follow with honors at Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, Fla.
