Florian V. O’Day, 98, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Highland, Ind., passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Hammond, Ind., Jan. 21, 1916.
Florian was a winter resident of Florida since 1956, before becoming a permanent resident in 1993. He was the owner of O’Day Trucking Company in Indiana for 50 years. Florian was also a land developer in the area. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace parish in Highland and St. Raphael’s parish in Englewood. Florian was a member of the Rotary Club in Highland, and a charter member of Englewood Elks Club.
He is survived by his two daughters, Victoria Cole, and Kathleen (John) Bellamy, both of Englewood; daughter-in-law, Sherry (George) O’Day; two sons, John (Debra) O’Day of Englewood, and Dennis (Pat) O’Day of Schererville, Ind.; three half-brothers, Bud, Darryl, and Robert McFadden; and two half-sisters, Mary and Etta May; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, of 60 years, Kathryn, in 1995; sons, Jerry, Chuck, Mike, and George; companion of 12 years, Janet Studer; sister, Bernadine Orban; grandson, Chuckie O’Day; and great-grandson, Bobby O’Day Jr.
Family will receive friends at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood. Funeral and burial to take place in Highland, IN.
