Janet Beth Preston

Janet Beth “Jan” Preston, 85, of Hamlet Drive in Englewood, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

She was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Middletown, Conn., to Esther Agnes Holt Ahlberg and David George Ahlberg.

Due to her mother’s untimely death, Janet was placed for adoption at the age of 4, and her mother’s first cousin, Bertha Griswold Heser and Herman Heser, adopted her, renaming her Janet Beth Heser. She married Sperry Hudson Preston (now deceased) on Oct. 13, 1951.

Janet was a beloved member of the community and frequently could be found Involved in various clubs and women’s groups in Charlotte County, Fla. She was a long-term member of St. David’s Episcopal Church of Englewood. She was an avid Bridge and Canasta player, as well as an accomplished knitter and Crocheter, and a practitioner of needlepoint.

Janet is survived by four children, Holly Sowter of Aurora, Ill., Mark Preston, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Glenn Preston and Paul Preston, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place in late autumn, to coincide with the return of friends who summer in the North.
