A Port Charlotte man was arrested Sunday after allegedly punching a 75-year-old man outside the D.D.M. Food Pantry at 4040 Tamiami Trail. According to the arrest report, the victim came to the food pantry Aug. 14 around 8:20 a.m. to get a number so he could receive food donations later in the day.

When he walked out toward the road to smoke a cigarette, a man named David, later identified as David Lee Luce, 56, began yelling at him about not smoking on the property. The victim said he was off the property and said, “Kiss my a--.” Luce then walked up to the man and hit him with a closed fist two or three times. Multiple witnesses confirmed the events and said Luce volunteers in the produce section of the food pantry.
