Pickleball rules call for a lower net, Wiffle ball-like balls, smaller racquets and a smaller court.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, Englewood Pickleball Club members retrieve rock-filled milk jugs from the palmettos and hang them on the tennis nets to lower them to pickleball height. Another member gets a metal basket filled with pickle balls from the complex maintenance garage.

There are eight tennis courts at the Englewood Sports Complex at 1300 S. River Road, Englewood. Two of them have yellow lines on them for pickleball play. When the game begins, you hear thunk, thunk, thunk — the unique sound as the yellow Wiffle ball-like pickleball is smacked back and forth over the net.
