A big blow in the loss at North Port against the Lemon Bay JV basketball team came early in the second period when leading scorer Danielle DiGiacomo had to go to the hospital with an injured ankle. Coaches Denise Young and varsity coach Mike Young carry her off the court.

NORTH PORT — “Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug.”

Those were the first words from Lemon Bay girls’ junior varsity basketball coach Denise Young after their 56-14 loss at North Port on Nov. 19. I had been thinking the same thing as the game progressed.
