SARASOTA — After struggling to score in Tuesday’s semifinals, DeSoto County High School found its offense in the first half Thursday night and went on to defeat Cardinal Mooney 3-0 to capture the District 2A-11 championship at Booker High School.

It took the Bulldogs 45 minutes to score on Tuesday, but Oscar Ponce got them on the board in the 19th minute Thursday, converting a pass from Manolo Mejia to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Mejia found the back of the net two minutes later to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead, and Osiel Nuevo took a feed from Alejandro Vargas and put the ball past Cougar goalkeeper Michael Staikos during stoppage time to give DeSoto County a 3-0 lead at the break.
