PUNTA GORDA — Joey Howes’ first two at-bats were doubles that threatened to separate the baseball from its cover. But for his most important contribution, he didn’t even need to lift the bat off his shoulders.

Howes drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, providing Charlotte with the go-ahead run in a 5-3 victory over Fort Myers on Tuesday.
