PORT CHARLOTTE — Joe Maddon was in the dugout managing Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox, but the Tampa Bay Rays’ manager’s mind was elsewhere.

Prior to the game, the Rays had to sort through their plethora of bench and bullpen options and decide who would make the opening-day roster. And Maddon said the decisions were not easy.
