Cynthia Martin McKinnish, 57, went home to be with Jesus Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, as a result of respiratory failure.

She was a loving wife, mother and friend.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, visiting the beach and walking her dogs.

Born Sept. 8, 1956, in Sylvester, Ga., Mrs. McKinnish was a resident of Fort Meade for 22 years, moving from Bartow. She was a graduate of Bartow High School, class of 1974, and of Warner University with honors, class of 1994. She was a counselor for the Department of Children & Families for 13 years. She was a Legal Secretary for several attorneys in the area for many years. She was a member of the Bartow First Baptist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher for high school and kindergarten classes. She also volunteered for the Senior Orphans and belonged to the Sonshiners prayer group.

Mrs. McKinnish is survived by her husband, Dr. James R. McKinnish of Fort Meade; daughter, Jayme “DeeDee” McKinnish of Fort Meade; two stepsons, Todd R McKinnish and Ricky McKinnish (Nikki); two stepdaughters, Nikki Alderman and Merry Hostetler (Harry) all of Fort Meade; parents, Edgar and Wilma Martin of Bartow; brother, Eddie Martin (Lauri) of Bartow and sister, Kathy Nooe of Fort Meade; three grandchildren; seven nieces; three nephews; five great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Heaven is receiving a great asset.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Bartow, 410 E. Church St., Bartow.

Funeral service follows at 11 a.m. at the church.
