Bertha Gay Moore Ray

Bertha Gay Moore Ray, 85, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, as a result of natural causes.

Mrs. Ray was born March 22, 1928, in Roanoke, Va. She and her family moved to Bartow in 1951.

Mrs. Ray retired from the Polk County School Board in 1994 after 30 years of service. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Bartow.

Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Carlos Ralph Ray, Sr. and her loving daughter, Carla Ray Lively.

She is survived by her daughters, Carlane Ray (Larry) Knies and Susan Ray (Charles) Norton; son, Ralph (Debbie) Ray, Jr.; sisters, Mary Gates, Debie Hicks and Cathy Watson; brother, Don Moore; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ray’s family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Lakeland Funeral Home at 2125 S. Bartow Highway in Lakeland.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Holloway officiating.

Interment will immediately follow at Lakeland Memorial Gardens.
