Mae Brock Stephens

Mae Brock Stephens, 80, of Bartow, Fla., passed away Jan. 30, 2014, at her residence from respiratory failure.

A native of Norton, Va., she moved to Bartow in 1964 from there. Mae worked as a Pre-K schoolteacher at both the Whistle Stop and Gloryland Express Preschools in Bartow. She was also a homemaker and a member of the Faith Community Church in Bartow. She was an avid painter and enjoyed arts and video games.

Mae was preceded in death by her son, Danny Sturgill.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lawana Richardson (Milford) of Alturas, and Martha Geisendorfer (Kenny) of Lakeland; son, Dennis Sturgill (Lynn) of Alturas; sister, Edith Robinette of Wise, Va.; brother, Bethel J. Brock (Peggy) of Wise, Va.; eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

The family received friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home

Services were 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home, 650 E. Main St., Bartow.

Burial was in Wildwood Cemetery, Bartow.
