Marlin Adkison, 85, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center of cancer.

Born on Feb. 10, 1929, in Hacoda, Ala., he was the son of William D. and Jessie Adkison.

Mr. Adkison moved to Bartow from Alabama in 1943.

He was a member of Florida National Guard and he was Baptist.

Mr. Adkison was employed with the City of Bartow for many years as Maintenance Superintendent at the Bartow Airbase.

Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Adkison, and his daughter, Betty Jo Strickland.

He is survived by three daughters, Frances Walden of Bartow, Patricia Adkison of Winter Haven, Sandra Bashlor (Ronnie) of Lakeland; brother Holland Adkison (Evelyn) of Dothan, Ala.; sisters, Pat Allen (Don) of Crawfordville, Fla., Ann Griffin (Richard) of Bartow and his friend, Kathy Haley; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the Bartow First Assembly of God, 915 S. Broadway.
