Jean Sikes Couey, 87, passed away from heart failure Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 in Bartow.

Born Jan. 23, 1927, in Bartow, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh O. and Pearl (Horne) Sikes.

Jean was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bartow.

She retired from the Polk County School Board after 25 years of service as a PABX Operator.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Couey, who passed away just nine days earlier her on Feb. 17, 2014.

She is surivved by a loving family that includes her son, Gary Couey (Deborah) of Brandon; her daughter, Sandra Stenger of Bartow; her grandchildren, Lee Couey (Danette), Kim Stenger, Carrie Bell, Hank Stenger; and her great grandchildren, Cody, Kaylee, Caden, Coby, Logan, Kinley, Bradley, and Tanner.

The family will receive friends at 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at Whidden McLean Funeral Home in Bartow.

Funeral services follow at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3 at the funeral home chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society care of “Cancer Can’t Tucker Us Out” relay for life team, 220 N. Idlewood Ave. #108 Bartow, FL 33830.
