Hazel Peel Seymour, 92, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at Hospice House of Citrus County.
She was born in Gainesville, Fla., on Jan. 6, 1922, to Luther and Susan Vickers Peel.
Her early years were spent in St. Petersburg, Fla., where she attended local schools. After marriage to Harry Randolph Seymour and travel during World War II, she spent many years in Bartow and Spirit Lake, Fla., before relocating to Ozello, then Crystal River.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, and her brothers, Hubert, Howard and Lucian Peel and sister, Sylvia Peel Jones.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Peel of St. Petersburg; daughter, Jan Seymour Ashworth of Crystal River; daughter, Brenda Seymour Brown and husband, Walter; granddaughter, Lisa Brown Riker and husband, Dallas, all of Homosassa, Fla.; granddaughter Christina Brown Shumway and husband, Cliff, of Crystal River. Also great-grandsons, Cody McCary of Staten Island, N.Y., and C.J. Shumway of Crystal River and great-granddaughters Rita Arnett of Homosassa and Jessica and Amy Shumway of Crystal River.
Hazel will be missed by her little dog, Mocha.
She was employed for more than 30 years at Ben Hill Griffin Citrus Plant in Bartow, a job she loved.
Hazel was an excellent seamstress and gardener, and a wonderful Southern cook. She was an accomplished bowler and enjoyed participating in tournaments throughout the United States. She belonged to the 600 Club and the Queens, and twice converted the 7-10 split successfully. She enjoyed bowling until she was over 90 years old.
Mrs. Seymour was a lifelong Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of Old Homosassa, and looked forward to worship service each Sunday. Her beloved Lord guided and comforted her greatly as she went to rest.
A graveside service is 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Fero Memorial Gardens, 5891 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, Fla., followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Old Homosassa, 10540 W. Yulee Drive, Homosassa, Fla., with the Rev. J. Alan Ritter officiating.
A fellowship reception in the church hall immediately follows.
Flowers are welcome; however, memorial contributions in Hazel’s memory would also be appreciated and may be made to Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.
