It was Senior Night but Frostproof marked the occasion by putting together an uninspired performance that included lots of penalties and a couple of costly fumbles.

Berkeley Prep came out on top with a 21-3 victory Friday night at Faris Brannen Stadium on Friday night.

It was the last game of the regular season for the Bulldogs. They will have a bye next week and then head into the playoffs on Nov. 15.

Berkeley took the opening kickoff and held the ball for more than 6 minutes. The

Buccaneers drove inside Bulldog territory, but the Frostproof defense forced a turnover and ended the threat. Derick Mitchell intercepted Brad Mayes’ pass at the Frostproof 27-- yard line with 5:42 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs put together a long drive of their own that stretched into the second quarter.

It stalled inside the Berkeley 20. Lamar Bobb came on to boot a 34-yard field goal to put Frostproof ahead 3-0 at the 10:20 mark of the period.

Berkeley was on the move once again, starting its next possession from the 37. The Buccaneers marched 63 yards with Mayes going over from the one. Austin Iglehart kicked the extra point to give the Buccaneers a 7-3 lead with 5:40 to go in the quarter.

A critical mistake by Frostproof set up the visitors’ second score. Berkeley went three and out and was in punt formation at its own 23.

But the Bulldogs were flagged for running into the kicker and that gave the visitors a first down. Mayes was sharp on this drive and completed four passes in a row. The drive was capped off with an 11-yard scoring pass from Mayes to Jacob Mathis. Iglehart converted the extra point with 29 seconds left in the second period to make it 14-3.

Frostproof, which had only four possessions in the first half, had another drive that ended with a fumble inside the Berkley 25.

The Bulldogs had trouble holding onto the ball in the third quarter and it cost them.

Starting from their own 17, Frostproof picked up a first down. But a fumbled snap resulted in a big loss and forced a punt.

A bad snap from center rolled into the end zone where the Buccaneers recovered to put them ahead by a comfortable margin. Iglehart converted the PAT and it was 21-3 with 7:34 to go in the third quarter,

Kaleel Gaines gave the Bulldogs a lift by returning the ensuing kickoff to the Berkeley 40. However, Frostproof wasn’t able to take advantage of the great field position as the Bulldogs fumbled the ball at the Buccaneers 12.

Frostproof finished with an overall mark of 7-3 and 3-2 in the district.

Berkeley’s record improved to 4-4 and 2-3 in the district.
