That was quite an eye opener in The Lake Wales News article of June 25. Well, both Bell and Dantzler and the other Commissioners may think they are doing a “good job” but this will be determined when we see Polk citizens having to face another 1 percent increase in their county sales tax this fall, and the problem of sewage sludge being dumped from other counties continues to rot Polk County land and is overlooked and brushed aside by the county commissioners.
These are just a couple of the complaints against the commissioners. While I can’t speak for all commissioners, I can say neither Commissioners Bell nor Hall, display the “conservative” roots they previously claimed and relied upon to get them onto the Board of County Commissioners in the first place.
So, to each commissioner, don’t bother taking any bows. Instead start listening to the true “conservative” individuals who show up at the public meetings of the PCCO and are given only a 3-minute time to voice their opposition to your nefarious proposals. And to the residents of Polk, think about how much money that 1 percent sales tax increase will cost you (i.e. 4 cents more per gallon for gasoline, more taxes on your groceries and other purchases), even though it supposedly will be offset by a small decline in your property taxes. What about renters or those who lease their land and pay their taxes indirectly thru the rents or leases? Are they just being ignored? Polk County already has a higher sales tax than 83.9 percent of Florida’s other cities and counties. As for me, if this tax boondoggle goes through, I will be buying all my gasoline just over the county line, as will many other residents, and paying 8 to 10 cents a gallon less.
And for voters a little advice regarding ALL politicians whether at the local or national level: Don’t waste your time listening to what they say, or how good a job they are claiming to do, but WATCH what they do. Their actions speak much, much louder than their flowery words. Have a nice day.
