For the past 50 years the Lake Placid Athletic Association has raised money to support youth athletics. A major goal is to turn a vacant building adjacent to the Lake Placid High School into a state of the art weight room, as well as a facility to hold various sports events.

Laura Teal current Secretary of the Association has played a major roll in raising money to help the area youth grow in their athletic abilities, helping them to become strong future leaders.

“There are many opportunities for the community to help,” Teal said. “One is by attending the third annual Benchwarmers Ball.”

The Ball will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Elks Lodge in Lake Placid.

Tickets are available at $50 per person. That includes a choice of a prime rib or stuffed chicken breast dinner and dance featuring The Shannon Reed Band. Contact Laura Teal at 863-441-0729 or Emily Dabolt at 863-633-9640 for tickets. If you just want to attend the dance starting at 9 p.m. you can purchase tickets at the door for $10. Beautiful items will be on display to win at the planned raffle and a live auction will add to the fun.

Area companies can become table sponsors for $500, which includes eight tickets and recognition as a strong supporter of youth athletics. An in-kind donation or a raffle prize will be most appreciated as well.

Coaches and their teams still have time to raise money to support team activities. Sell 10 tickets and your team will receive $100; bring a raffle or auction item and win $50; sell the most tickets and receive $500. If your team decorates a table to showcase your sport you will win $50 for the team. Call Teal for added details.

There are solid statistics showing that youth who participate in sports do better in school and tend to become the type of leaders so needed to keep our country strong. A small way to support our kids while having a fun filled evening with friends is by attending the Benchwarmers Ball.
