Craft, Hobby Fair set for Saturday at Tanglewood

More than 80 crafters will offer homemade jewelry, painted glassware, kitchen gifts, Christmas cards, fine woodwork and more when Tanglewood hosts its annual Craft and Hobby Fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

New showroom hours for Caladium Arts, Crafts Co-op

The Caladium Arts and Crafts Cooperative, located at 132 E. Interlake Blvd, Lake Placid, Florida has changed the hours of operation to 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday through Saturday. The new hours will be in place through April when it will resume a Tuesday to Saturday schedule. The arts and crafts mecca is closed on Sunday to allow members to spend time with their families. Scribblers and Scribes to meet today in Sebring

A meeting of Florida Writer’s Association, Scribblers and Scribes, will be at Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Sebring at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday). The group will host Sebring CPA Rebecca Benevides-Noonon to discuss tax issues authors face and answer questions.

The group’s leader, Barbara Beswick, will also introduce her new children’s book, Dippy Duck’s Adventures. The story is for any age listener and written for readers from fourth- to seventh-grades. It contains a glossary and is illustrated by the author with reviews by several notables. She will be sharing the story and signing books at the meeting.

‘Crafty Ladies’ to host Saturday crafts bazaar

The Crafty Ladies from the Lake Placid Elks Lodge will host a Holiday Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Featured will be holiday arts and crafts, baked goods, and drawings for prizes. The Elks Lodge is on County Road 621, just east of town. For more information call 863-465-2766.

Book signing to be at McLane’s Garden Cafe

Local published authors who are members of the Sebring writing group Scribblers and Scribes will be at McLane’s Country Garden Cafe on North Ridgewood Ave. in Sebring from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A variety of books for holiday gift-giving by M. Bailey, B. Beswick, M. Richmond, B. Oswald, D. Rexford, C. Schumacher, S. Serrafino and D. Thompson will be signed by the authors.

TOPS meets Tuesdays

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will host an open meeting Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Woman’s Club, located at 10 N. Main Ave. in Lake Placid. “Come see for yourself that TOPS is a support group for efforts in weight loss,” a spokesman said.

Artist Keith Goodson to paint at Chamber lunch

Noted artist Keith Goodson will create a painting “live” at a Wednesday, Nov. 13 luncheon meeting of the Greater Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce. Goodson created more than a dozen of the bigger-than-life paintings that comprise the Lake Placid Mural Society’s collection.

“This is your opportunity to see in person world famous and locally loved artist Keith Goodson paint live,” said Chamber executive director Eileen May.

Candidate Workshop to explain campaign rules

Thinking about running for public office? Several new provisions for candidates and campaign finance will be explained in two Candidate Workshops hosted by Highlands County Supervisor of Elections Penny Ogg.

The sessions will be Thursday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Both sessions will be in the County Commission chambers of the Government Center at 600 S. Commerce Ave., Sebring.

Goin’ to the dogs

The Placid Lakes Social Circle has set plans to sponsor a chartered bus day trip to the Naples/Fort Myers Greyhound Track on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The bus will leave Placid Lakes Town Hall, 2010 Placid Lakes Blvd., at 9:15 a.m. The $38 cost includes bus fare, track entrance fee, programs, lunch, unlimited coffee, tea and soft drinks, tax and gratuity. Tomoka Heights rummage,

bake sale set for Nov. 16

The Tomoka Heights community in Lake Placid will hold its annual rummage and bake sale Saturday, Nov. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the clubhouse. Shoppers should enter through the south gate on U.S. 27.

Offered will be household items, electronics, furniture, Christmas decorations, jewelry, collectables, glassware, candles, plastics, baskets and more. Homemade baked goods will also be available.

Traditionally, the sale is held the first Saturday in November but it has been moved back this year.

Chamber office now open

Saturdays through April

As an added benefit to members, residents and visitors, the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce will open Saturdays starting this week and continuing through April 2014. Saturday hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Mural Gallery of the Lake Placid Mural Society is located inside the Chamber of Commerce and will observe the same Saturday hours, according to Mural Society co-founder Harriett Porter.

Empty Bowl Luncheon

to benefit Food Bank

The Heartland Food Bank will host its major fundraiser, the Empty Bowls Luncheon, at the Bert J. Harris Jr. Agri-Civic Center on U.S. 27 South in Sebring from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18. Cost is $10 per person.

fashion show, luncheon

Heart of Highland, Sweet Adelines, Show Chorus will present “Adelines Fashions On Parade,” a fashion show and luncheon, Saturday, Nov. 23 and tickets are available now.

The annual event will be held at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be at noon. The menu will include glazed apricot chicken, with all the trimmings.

Models will represent Amber Louise in Lake Placid, and BonWorth, Dress Barn, and Sue’s Cubby Hole all in Sebring.

There will be an opportunity table, door prizes, and entertainment by the Chorus and its Quartets.

LP Garden Club to present

Holiday Home, Garden Tour

Four beautiful lakefront homes and gardens will be open when the Lake Placid Garden Club hosts its annual Holiday Home and Garden Tour from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Free refreshments and a poinsettia sale will be at the club’s “Holiday Cafe” in the pavillion at Stuart Park in uptown Lake Placid.
