Drew Jones of Henscratch Farms Vineyard & Winery was the speaker when the Lake Placid Garden Club hosted its October meeting at the Woman’s Club building on North Main Avenue. Jones offered samples of the new red and white wines now being introduced at Henscratch Farms. He said the farm also offers jams, jellies, pickles, fresh eggs and, during season, U-pick berries.
There were 37 members and three guests at the meeting, which was led by President Alice Stahr. Following a catered lunch of chicken salad with the trimmings and pumpkin pie, First Vice President Marsha Browning introduced Jones. President Stahr then spoke on the Coral Reef Restoration Project, Certificated Wildlife Habitat, and the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc.
Luise Andrea introduced new members Dianne Kurek, Shirley Bott and Margo Sanders. Members welcomed back returning member Wynelle Conley.
Second Vice President Peggy Alexander reported on the Dec. 6 Holiday Home & Garden Tour; a Scholarship Fashion Show on Feb. 8; a Plant Sale slated for March; and plans to host the April 22 District IX meeting. Trips & Tours chairman Sharon Diaz announced a Nov. 19 car trip to the Ding Darling National Park/Wildlife Refuge at Sanibel Island. A Dec.13 outing is planned for Echo Demonstration Farm in Ft. Myers; and on Feb.20 the group will visit Naples Botanical Gardens.
The Garden Club meets every second Wednesday of the month, from September through May.
