Dottie Rexford of Avon Park was honored with two awards when the Florida Writers Association hosted a statewide conference recently in Orlando.
Rexford brought home the prestigious Royal Palm Literary Award for her book “Cora Pooler.” The book was chosen as First in Women’s Fiction and Book of the Year for Unpublished Women’s Fiction.
The awards were announced at FWA’s three-day annual conference. The annual competition was the 12th for FWA and attracted more than 300 entries.
Also claiming honors at the conference were Anne Reynolds with a second place in Poetry; Lynn Ullin who was presented third place for Short Story; and Milly Richmond with a third place in Children’s Picture Book. They are all members of the Avon Park Word Smiths.
The Royal Palm Literary Awards competition is a service of FWA to recognize excellence in members’ published and unpublished works while providing objective and constructive written assessment for all entrants.
The FWA is 1,300 members strong and growing. It is a nonprofit organization with a goal of supporting Florida’s established and emerging writers. Membership is open to the public.
