Array of community education classes offered at SFSC

South Florida State College’s Community Education Department will offer a variety of classes for Spring 2014.

In Pilates, students will learn to be more flexible and build strength, through a series of stretches, and moves that will leave them feeling relaxed. This seven-week class starts Monday, Jan. 13 and meets from 12:05 to 1:05 p.m. through Feb. 28. The cost is $47, and the course number is (CRN) 21452.

Ballroom Dance I teaches the basic steps of the Waltz, Cha-Cha, Foxtrot and Swing. This class is for beginners. Have fun and gain confidence on the dance floor while enjoying all the health benefits ballroom dancing offers. Couples and singles are welcome. No partner is required. The class will meet Tuesdays starting, Jan. 14. Class times are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and end March 4. The cost is $50, and the course number is (CRN) 21003.

In Ballroom Dance II, students will build on the foundation of Ballroom Dance I and introduce the popular rhythm style dances. Couples or singles welcome. No partner required. This class will be meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting Jan. 14 and ending March 4. The cost is $50, and the course number is (CRN) 21176.

In Creative Writing, Serafino, an award-winning creative writing author, will teach the basics of writing in an easy relaxed atmosphere. Learn techniques for bringing words to life on paper. Class will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, starting Jan. 27 and ending March 3. The cost is $44, and the course number is (CRN) 20528.

In Basic Home Computer I, students learn to use the mouse, create email accounts, learn about the task bar and navigating the web. This class is for beginning computer students, and will be taught with Windows 7. The class will meet Mondays, starting Jan. 13 and ending March 3. Class times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $74, and the course number is (CRN) 20460, and includes course notes.

American Sign Language III teaches the “10 Rules” of the ASL language structure, proper communication skills with the signs you have learned. Further develop and enhance your skills by the use of NMN (non-manual signs). Students will also learn ASL sentence structure and its syntax. This class will be held on Tuesdays, starting Jan. 14 and ending March 4. Class times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $58, and the course number is (CRN) 21454.

Conversational Spanish teaches practical Spanish that you can apply to real-life situations. Spanish grammar and pronunciation skills are taught in a fun manner. This class will be held on Thursdays, starting Jan. 15. Times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the class ends March 6. The cost is $58, and the course number is (CRN) 21453.

In Digital Photography I, learn how to set shutter speed and aperture openings, compose photographs, take pictures of people and events. An adjustable camera with the ability to, set shutter speed and lens opening is mandatory. This class will be held on Thursdays, starting Jan. 16 with class times of 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The series ends Feb. 27. The cost is $51, and the course number is (CRN) 21002.
