Glen Nickerson has been named president of Highlands Newspapers, which includes the News-Sun, the Lake Placid Journal and the Highlands Journal.
“I’m excited to continue to work with the great team at the News-Sun, Lake Placid Journal and Highlands Journal. It’s a dedicated group of professionals that takes great pride in producing an outstanding source of news, information and advertising to the community we serve,” Nickerson said.
Nickerson comes from Charlotte County where he served as a publisher and advertising director at the Charlotte Sun in Port Charlotte. Aside from a short stint at the Daytona Beach News-Journal, he has worked for Sun Coast Media Group since 1998 in various positions in circulation and advertising.
He has served as president of the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition as well as a director on the boards of the Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce, Florida Newspapers Advertising & Marketing Executives, United Way of Charlotte County, Charlotte County YMCA, 21st Century Challenge, and treasurer and board member of Florida Newspapers In Education.
“My fiancee, Tracy Weikel, and I are looking forward to relocating to beautiful Highlands County,” Nickerson said.
Publisher Romona Washington looks forward to continuing her close work with Nickerson. “In the past two months, Glen and I have worked well together as a team,” she said. “As we continue our work in taking this group of newspapers to the next level, I am looking forward to his help and guidance.”
