Lake Placid Montessori Academy will add grades six to eight to offer parents another option for the coming school year. Currently, the academy educates students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade at its Lakeview Street campus.

“Parents wanted to have another option for their graduating fifth graders,” said Jennifer Payne who serves as owner, director and principal of Lake Placid Montessori Academy.

“Middle school is where the Montessori method of teaching really shows its colors,” she said. “It is ideal for those with special needs and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders because the kids are in control as the teachers act as advisors.”

With the new middle school offerinf, the current fourth and fifth graders will likely move to a new location of 540 Michigan Street. The new campus will be open for the 2014/2015 school year, Payne said.

McKay Scholarships and Step Up for Students are accepted.

Lake Placid Montessori Academy will continue to offer music, Spanish, and will include Mandarin this year. “We create an environment of fun and education,” explained Payne. “We teach conflict resolution, verbal versus physical. Students have autonomy over their world where traditional schools don’t have that.”
