Highlands County’s employment picture looks a little brighter this week. A leader in the metal roofing industry has announced it will bring a manufacturing and distribution center to Sebring — and that means a potential 49 new jobs.
GulfCoast Supply has leased Building 50 at Sebring Regional Airport, filling a void at the airport and commerce park and holding out the promise of jobs as the facility ramps up production.
Sebring Airport Authority Executive Director Mike Willingham said GulfCoast Supply will be a good fit for the airport and the community. He said the roofing company was built on a foundation of “genuine customer service and accountability.”
The new lease reflects well on the Sebring Airport Authority and the Highlands County Economic Development Commission.
The airport authority provided the infrastructure that appealed to GulfCoast Supply and the EDC touted the benefits of relocating to Highlands County.
The EDC has come under fire in recent weeks for what was perceived as a lack of activity and results. Certainly, much of the EDC’s work is done quietly. When companies consider relocating it is common for executives to ask for secrecy to protect their plans. That same secrecy can leave the impression of little being accomplished when, in fact, a lot of “behind the scenes” work is under way. That work came to fruition when the new lease was signed.
We congratulate the Sebring Airport Authority and the Highlands County EDC for a job well-done. The addition of a recognized industry leader will make the Commerce Park stronger and those new jobs will make Highlands County stronger for our work force.
