Joseph Elwell Gartley

Joseph Elwell Gartley, 86, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in Savannah, Ga., from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

A native of Maine, he was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Eddington. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and then built a career at Pratt and Whitney Aerospace Division, retiring after many years of service. Mr. Gartley moved to Lake Placid from Venice several years ago. He was a regular breakfast client at Lake Placid Family Restaurant.

Mr. Gartley was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Gartley, daughter Robin J. Turlington, grandson Everett I. Heyveld, and great-granddaughter Kayla S. Hughes. He is survived by a son, Michael A. Gartley; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the devotion of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
