Edward J. Murphy Jr., 73, of Lake Placid, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne.
Born Aug. 1, 1940, in Springfield, Mass. to Thuryle and Edward J. Murphy Sr. he served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the Nantucket Light Ship as an electronics specialist. After his military discharge, Mr. Murphy began a career with IBM where he retired as manager with 28 1⁄2 years of service. He moved to Lake Placid from Boca Raton and was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Lake Placid.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Marion; daughters Kelly Murphy and Bridget Murphy-Bartus; sons James Murphy (Shawnah) and Patrick Murphy (Cori); two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Abbigail; a sister, Linda Murphy Hreschuk; and a brother, James F. Murphy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. James Catholic Church with Father Michael Cannon officiating. Military Honors were presented by the VFW Post 4300 Honor Guard after the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Cremation services were entrusted with Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
