Richard ‘Dick’ Gooravin

Richard “Dick” Gooravin, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.

Born in Miami on Sept. 23, 1927, to Elizabeth and John Francis Gooravin. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and later enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard where he was assigned to Alligator Reef Lighthouse. After his military discharge, Mr. Gooravin married Dorothy Mae Clayton on Aug. 16, 1959, in Islamorada. He went to work for a gas company there as a service technician and meter reader, retiring after 25 plus years. The couple moved to Lake Placid in 1994. Mr. Gooravin was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Lake Placid Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and VFW. His hobby was woodworking.

Mr. Gooravin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children Jackie Gargan (John), Donald Morrison (Debbie), and Joan R. Gooravin; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Cole officiating. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Services followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the devotion of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
