Mark J. Shaffer, 81, of Lake Placid, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.
Born to Gertrude and Wilbur Shaffer in Pittsburgh, Pa. on Dec. 29, 1932, Mr. Shaffer served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic, rising to the rank of sergeant. He retired after owning a trucking company and moved to Lake Placid in 2000 from Davie where he married his wife, Diane. He enjoyed golf, motorcycling and visiting local watering holes, especially the Hideaway Lounge. He was a member of American Legion Post 25 of Lake Placid and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by his children, Mark Anthony Shaffer, Sherry Ann Shaffer and Venice Marie Shaffer. He is survived by his wife, Diane; a daughter, Susan Barrett; son, Mark Alan Shaffer; seven grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Shaffer.
A service to celebrate Mr. Shaffer’s life was Saturday, Feb. 8 at Scott Funeral Home in Lake Placid with Ed Conklin officiating.
