Robert “Bob” Wayne Peavy, 76, of Flagler Beach passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Hospice Care.

Born Nov. 26, 1937, in Vero Beach to the late Cecil Elijah and Lillie Thelma Peavy, he enlisted as a young man in the Coast Guard Reserve. He graduated with a Masters of Education from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. and soon was chosen youth director at the YMCA in Ithaca, N.Y. He then traveled to Live Oak where he served as recreational director for the Advent Christian Home. He began teaching in Live Oak and later taught in St. Augustine, Bradenton, and settled in Lake Placid where he taught civics and geography. Peavy was assistant principal and then principal at Lake Placid Middle School. He was active in the Highlands Little Theatre, Rotary Club, Masons and he served as chaplain for the Lake Placid Elks Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid and a member of the church choir. He spent many summers traveling with students to Europe. After retirement as an educator, he moved to the Flagler Beach area where he became a member of the First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach.

Mr. Peavy was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Ray Peavy and step great-grandchild Aaron Doty. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Christine “Chris” Peavy; daughters Robin (Glen) Kundrick of Winter Springs and Margaret “Peggy” (Roger) Scarborough of Gainesvlle; brother John Peavy of Jacksonville; grandchildren Connie Doty, Susan Ono, Shannon Scarborough, Savannah Scarborough, Sarah Grace Scarborough, Elizabeth Kate Scarborough; great-grandchildren, Jamie Doty and Emi Ono; step great-grandchildren Blair Doty and Jimmy Doty; step-great great grandchildren Mylah and Gary.

Celebration of life services are planned for Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Flagler Beach and Sunday Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Peavy’s memory may be made to the Advent Christian Village, 10680 Dowling Park Drive, Live Oak, FL 32060.
