Artie A. ‘Art’ Williams

Artie A. “Art” Williams, 80, of Lake Placid, Fla., passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 2014, at Highlands Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Holmes County, Florida, where he lived until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1950, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah Frances Smith, in 1952 and they moved to Lake Placid in 1954 and worked at Buddy’s Sinclair Station and other local businesses until starting a career at St. Regis Paper Co, which later became Georgia Pacific. He retired after 29 years. He enjoyed playing guitar and singing country and gospel music. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

Frances preceded Mr. Williams in death as did his parents, John W. and Pauline Watford Williams. In 2003 Mr. Williams married Ruth Smyth who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Debbie Storicks (Steve), Artie (Denise), Rocky (Yvonne), and Jeff (Kristin); grandchildren Karla Storicks Youlden (Sean), Kyle, Kendall, Dennis, Macey, and Dagen Williams; and great-grandchildren, Deidre Shankle and Zachary Youlden.

Family will receive friends at Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday). Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Ford and Pastor Bill Cole celebrating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Navy.
