Karla Frances Edwards Lingle

Karla Frances Edwards Lingle, 88, of Lake Placid passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014.

Born June 6, 1926 in Robjohn, Ala. to Robert Victor and Lena Lee Edwards. The only daughter amongst five brothers, she graduated high school at 16 and soon relocated to Miami where she studied to be a Cadet Corps nurse, graduating from Jackson Memorial Hospital’s School of Nursing. She dedicated 40 years of her life to the field, serving at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss; and Variety Children’s Hospital and the VA Hospital in Miami. She married Thomas J. Lingle, in Chicago on August 18, 1945, and they shared 58 years together. Mrs. Lingle and her husband opened their home to over a dozen foster children. Upon retirement, Fran and Tom began a new career, relocating to the Placid Lakes area and building homes with the intent of providing affordable housing to local families.

Mrs. Lingle is survived by daughters Yvonne ( James) McKellar of Lake Placid and Patti (Tom) Hart of Deltona; brothers Fred (Vera) Edwards of Mobile, Ala. and Robert ( Sue) Edwards of Jasper, Ga; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Tom; her parents; and three brothers, Richard, Roy Reed, and David Edwards.

A service in Mrs. Lingle’s honor was Saturday, June 28 at First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Compassionate Care Hospice (, or to First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes.
