Clyde L. Mitchell, 91, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 in the care of his family and home hospice.

A WW II veteran serving in Griesbach, Germany and Steyr, Austria, Mr. Mitchell was able to take what he called “a trip of a lifetime” in 2008 when he visited the cities he had last seen while in the U.S. Army. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing bridge at the Tomoka Heights clubhouse, golfing, fishing, camping, writing, and working on various handyman projects. He was a Master Mason at Placid Lodge 282 and a member of Mizpah Shriner and Faith Baptist and Memorial Baptist churches.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his children. Gary (Elvera) Mitchell, Gayle Caswick, Deborah Stein, Tammy (Jerry) Lemke; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margaret, in 2007.

Memorial Service to celebrate Mr. Mitchell’s life will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11 at Faith Baptist Church, 660 Holmes Avenue, Lake Placid with Pastor Bill Cole officiating.

Cremation arrangements entrusted with Scott Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
