Helen Cecilia Burgan

Helen Cecilia Burgan, 87, of Lake Placid, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Born Oct. 30, 1926, in Queens, N.Y. to Elizabeth and Adam Yung, she was a bookkeeper at the courthouse in Collier County for many years. She had been a Lake Placid resident for the past 18 years and was very active in the community. Mrs. Burgan was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the Women of St. James, Ladies of the Elks, Highlands County Orchid Society, volunteer organizer at Lake Placid Health Care Center, and a NuHope volunteer. She enjoyed growing orchids, gardening, bridge, poker, boating and fishing.

Mrs. Burgan is survived by her daughters, Joan Tworzyanski, Alison Elliott, Karen Retherford, and Meredith Schmidt; sister-in-law Trudy Burgan; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In her memory and to honor her life, a Christian Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Mike Cannon celebrating. Interment will follow in the St. James Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to stay after the Mass for a reception, lunch and fellowship.

Memorial arrangements are under the devotion of Michael A. Brochetti Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
