The turnout was strong Saturday when the Lake Placid Police Department hosted its annual Bicycle Rodeo in front of the police department Saturday.

Area children had an opportunity to pick up safety tips as well as certificates for completing each segment of the safety course. Children rode their own bikes, or used “loaner” bicycles provided by the LPPD.

Children were offered free bicycle helmets and each bike underwent a safety check that included seat height, handlebar alignment and tire pressure. Then, each of the children rode the designated safety course to demonstrate their riding skills and awareness of obstacles around them.

Free hot dogs, soft drinks and water and other snacks were provided for participants and their families.
