Las Chivas defeat Arcadia in soccer league play

Lake Placid’s Las Chivas soccer team, which competes in the under age 13 division of the Arcadia Mexican Soccer League, defeated a team simply called “Arcadia,” 2-2, Saturday, Oct. 26. Miguel Alvarez scored two goals while teammates Julio Cesar Castillo and Diego Orduna accounted for one apiece.

“Our team is in first place and undefeated so far in the season,” said Coach Alejandro Villagomez. “This is the fourth season we’ve had a team in this league and we’ve been in first place every year,” the coach added.

Members of Las Chivas this year, in addition to Alvarez, Castillo and Orduna are: Omar Resendiz, Leandro Luna, Juan Castillo, Jesus Ortiz, Alejandro Villagomez, Jr. and goalie Luis Loyola.

Team Portugal plays Saturday doubleheader

Lake Placid’s second under-13 soccer team, known as Portugal, played a doubleheader in Saturday’s Arcadia Mexican Soccer League action. Portugal tied Team Barcelona of Arcadia, 2-2, in its first game with goals by Davey Macias and Angel Reyes.

In its second game of the day, Portugal sped past another team known only as “Arcadia” by a 2-1 count. Reyes and Macias accounted for the scoring in this game as well. Strong play came from Erin Gutierrez, Orlando Medina and Jesus Mares.

“We’re in second place, right behind Las Chivas for first place in the league,” said Portugal Coach Jennifer Gutierrez. “Our two Lake Placid teams are the class of the league right now. Our kids are playing really good soccer and we can take a great deal of pride in this,” the coach added.

Team Brazil blanked by Cachorros, 5-0

Team Brazil, a Lake Placid squad for girls ages under 8, went down to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Arcadia “Cachorros” in Saturday’s competition in the Arcadia Mexican Soccer League. “Cachorros” is Spanish for “Cubs.” Coach Jennifer Gutierrez said that the girls tried hard, there was some good defensive play by Jessica Martinez, Jasmine Vargaas, Yoana Vazquez and Jaquelyn Vazquez. Jenny Gutierrez and Sabrina Barajas had shots on goal.

Los Dragones play to tie

Lake Placid’s Los Dragones soccer team for youngsters ages 10 and under, played powerful Cruz Azul to a 4-4 tie Saturday, Oct. 26, in Arcadia Mexican Soccer League action. “The kids are happy because Cruz Azul has beaten us often, and it was great to hold them to a tie,” said team Coach Cecelia Mojica.

Joaquin Barajas, Adrian Mojica and Javier Santana scored the goals for Los Dragones. Strong play came from goalie Etiel Palacios as well as Eleazar Palacios, Adrian Amaro, Emanuel Barajas, Cassandra Valdovinos, Fernando Santos and Daniel Enriquez, the coach said.
