“I think we were the better team on the field, we just couldn’t get the ball into the net,” said a disappointed Coach Edgar Vazquez as his Lake Placid Green Dragon junior varsity soccer squad dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to the Frostproof Bulldogs Tuesday night, Nov. 12, at Roger Scarborough Memorial Field.
Lake Placid grabbed the lead early in the game as Eric Cardenas picked up a feed from one of the Green Dragon midfielders and executed a breakaway goal. The Dragons followed that up with several other “fast breaks” only to have them parried by the Bulldog goalie. Lake Placid led the game, 1-0, and appeared to have the upper hand offensively at the half.
Frostproof was able to come back with a pair of corner kicks in the second half which the Dragon defenders were not able to clear out of the area quickly enough. Both found their way into the net despite the efforts of goalie Josue Ramirez.
“The goals were not his fault,” said Coach Edgar Vazquez, “Josue played a really strong game at goal,” the coach added.
Coach Vazquez also praised the defensive play of team newcomer, freshman Alberto Munoz. “Alberto has a lot of ability and is constantly improving on the field,” the coach said.
