The Lake Placid Lady Dragon junior varsity basketball team had moments when it battled hard, but came out on the short end of a 42-26 score Friday night against the Sebring Blue Streaks in a game played there.
Sebring, with the home court advantage as well as a bit more size and firepower, took a 10-4 lead in the first quarter and stretched that to a 20-7 advantage at the half.
In the third quarter, however, Lake Placid played some good basketball, actually outscoring its opponent, 13-7, to move to a 20-28 deficit and attempted to “make a game of it.” In the third period, Aleigha Peterson scored three straight baskets. One came on a short set shot, another on a steal and lay-up, and then another short one from inside the paint. Jessica Harris sank a three-pointer in the penultimate period as well.
Sebring, however, went on a 14-6 run in the final quarter to take the win going away.
Peterson led Lake Placid in scoring with 13 points. Julia Tuason and Morgan Roberts added four apiece while Harris’s trey rounded out the scoring for the Lady Green. Sebring rode the crest of 14 points by Mary Patterson and a dozen more by Alexis Goins.
