The Lake Placid Lady Dragon varsity basketball team found the going rough against a strong and athletic Sebring Blue Streak team Friday night, absorbing a 50-17 defeat at the hands of their hosts in a game played there.
Utilizing a whole court press and a devastating fast break, the Streaks rolled out to big leads early. A basket by Jennie Herstein at the 5:50 mark was Lake Placid’s first goal of the night, and the first quarter ended with Sebring in the lead, 21-4.
Things went no better for the Lady Dragons in the second quarter as the Blue Streaks sank most every shot they sent toward the hoop. A basket by Quiahja Williams at the buzzer gave Lake Placid partisans something to cheer about.
In the third period diminutive Lake Placid guard, Kailin Brown, fired a nice pass to Raveen Gobourne underneath for two points. Williams had a coast-to-coast lay-up.
Lake Placid was led in scoring by Raveen Gobourne’s five points. Quiahja Williams and Shaquavia Gayle each accounted for four while Jennie Herstein and Anne Weber-Callahan scored two apiece.
