Placid Lakes ladies Christmas Scramble

The Placid Lakes Women’s Golf Association held a Christmas Scramble Tuesday, Dec. 10. The winning team consisted of Judy Thompson, Marnie Rosettis and Jeanne Ransom. They shot 43.0. In second, at 44.6, was the team of Joanne Shaw, Gloria Ziegler and Barbara McArdle. Gail Ladig, Karen Wallin and Ellie Shaw finished third at 45.2. The fourth-place team was made up of Rose Hunter, Bobbi Miller and Geri Bramos.

Carol Olsen was closest-to-the-pin at hole number two. Narola Rosenberg garnered the “chip-in” prize.

Placid Lakes men play best ball format

The golfing men of Placid Lakes played a “Two Best Ball Front, One Best Ball Back” tournament Wednesday, Dec. 11. John Goble teamed with Jack Hoerner, Dick McArdle and Tom Bramos to win the event at -23.

In second, carding -20, were Darrell Gardner, Gene Ransom, Bob Sheets and Wayne Wood. The third-place aggregation was comprised of Tom Lacy, Russ Isaacs, Jim Rozmarynowski and Ed Bartusch with a score of -19. John Moss joined Frank Fisher, John Rosettis and Dave Raciti in fourth place at -16. Taking fifth, the team of Bob Bauman, Jack Marceau, Larry Kress and John Millerick fired a -11.

Frank Fisher was closest-to-the-pin at hole number two.

Lake June West ladies play weekly tourney

Members of the Women’s Golf Association of Lake June West enjoyed their weekly “Best Ball” tournament Monday, Dec. 9. The winners for the week were Joyce Swartz, Doris Weeks, Betty Billau and Karen Armstrong. They came around the course with a combined card of 40. In second, at 41, were Elaine Orr, Betty Kincheloe, Virginia Simmons and Chris Heath. Annie Hall teamed with Eva Huffman, Sylvia West and Janice Barringer to finish third at 42.

Janice Barringer missed an ace by five inches at hole number two. Helene Mellon was closest-to-the-pin at number four, 8 feet, 6 inches, while Barbara Cash had the honors at number eight.

Lake June West men

play best ball format

The Lake June West men played their “Best Ball” tournament Wednesday, Dec. 12, with the team of Joe Swartz, Norm Grubbs, Al Welch and Larry Heath taking the win with a combined card of 40. In second, at 43, were John Byron, Dan Butler, Jack Maginnis and Dick Reaney.

Bill Fowler was closest-to-the-pin at hole number two, 11 feet, 2 inches from the cup. Ron West was closest to number four at 15 feet, 5 inches while Dick Reaney’s shot at number eight stopped 10 feet from paydirt.

Mixed scramble at Lake June West links

The Lake June West golfers turned out for a Mixed Scramble Thursday, Dec. 12. Orville and Eva Huffman joined Bob and Elaine Orr as well as Helene Mellon to comprise the winning team with a score of 53. In second, at 54, were Dick and Norma Denhart, Tom and Margaret Schultz with John Ruffo.

Charlotte Mathew was closest-to-the-pin for the ladies at hole number eight, 6 feet, 8 inches from the cup. Orville Huffman was closest to number two at 8 feet, 3 inches while Joe Swartz stretched the boundaries of the course a bit at number four, 22 feet, 3 inches out.
