Lake Placid teams excel in Arcadia soccer league

The Lake Placid Dragones, won the championship for the second year in a row of the ages 16 and under division of the Arcadia Mexican Soccer League Saturday, Dec. 14. They defeated an Arcadia team called the Tikataka Boys, 4-2, on penalty kicks to win take first-place honors.

Los Dragones held a 1-0 advantage at the end of the initial half, but the Tikatakas tallied in the second half with regulation time expiring on a 1-1 tie.

Because this was the championship game, a series of penalty kicks were used as a tiebreaker. Alfredo Aguillon, who usually plays goalie on the team, booted in a shot for Lake Placid. Switching to defense, Aguillon parried a shot by the Tikatakas. Diego Mireles scored the next goal for Lake Placid, giving the Dragones a 2-0 lead in penalties. The Arcadia team managed a goal next, 2-1, but a screeching shot by Enrique Morales, which eluded the Tikataka goalie and went to the back of the net with authority, settled the matter.

Other members of the Dragones team, which is coached by Don Fidel Mireles, include Danny Resendiz, Aron Barajas, Ovid Cabanas, Alejandro Benitez, Armando Orozco and Joel Vargas.

Las Chivas defeat Pumas, 3-2, take championship

The Lake Placid Las Chivas team, for youngsters 13 and under, took first place for the second consecutive season in the Arcadia Mexican Soccer League. In their championship game, played Saturday, Dec. 14, Las Chivas decisioned the Arcadia Pumas, 3-2.

Lake Placid’s first two goals were scored by Diego Orduna with assists by Alejandro Villagomez and Miguel Alvarez respectively. The third tally came from the foot of Julio Cesar Castillo with an assist by Diego Orduna. Coach Alejandro Villagomez, Sr., praised the defensive play of Leandro Luna and Omar Resendiz as well as the goalkeeping work of Luis Loyola. The champions finished the season with 10 wins, no defeats and a pair of ties.

There were other honors for the Las Chivas team as well. Diego Orduna was the league’s leading scoring with 13 goals while Julio Cesar Castillo finished right behind him in second place. Luis Loyola placed first among the league’s goalies for saves and shut outs.

10 and under Dragones finish 3rd

Lake Placid’s Los Dragones team which plays in the ages 10 and under division finished third in the Arcadia Mexican Soccer League this season after claiming the position with a 3-0 victory over Arcadia’s Los Cachorros or “The Cubs.” Adrian Mojica scored two of the goals, assisted each time by a pass from Javier Santana. Santana booted in the final tally with an assist by Mojica.

Etiel Palacios officiated at the goal for Los Dragones, recording the shut out on defense. Playing well for Los Dragones, according to Coach Cecilia Mojica, were Fernando Santos, Joaquin Barajas, Emanuel Barajas, Cassandro Valdovinos and Eleazar Palacios.
