After spotting the Avon Park Red Devils an “excuse me” goal very early in the match, the Lake Placid Green Dragon boys’ varsity soccer team took control of things with a 5-1 victory in a game played Friday, Dec. 10, at Joe Franza Stadium in Avon Park.
Yoyi Gomez fed Diego Mireles with a picture-perfect pass to allow Mireles to score the initial Lake Placid goal. Carlos Santana produced the second tally on an assist by Danny Gil. Gomez found the back of the net on a combination play involving both Jorge Godinez and Mireles. That one made the count 3-1 in favor of Lake Placid as the teams broke for the halftime intermission.
The Green Dragons scored in the first minute and a half of the second period as Osvaldo Orduna kicked one in after a crossing pattern by Carlos Santana. Ricardo Morales finished the Lake Placid scoring with his first career goal as he fired a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net.
“I’m proud of the way our team responded to the early Avon Park goal,” Lake Placid Coach James Ashley began. “We got great play from each player. In fact, some of our freshmen showed the most composure in this game. I like that this team isn’t relying on one player or one class of players. We’re striving for team soccer, and we got that in this game,” the coach said.
