With a fine effort on both offense and defense, the Lake Placid Green Dragon varsity boys’ soccer team blanked the McKeel Academy Wildcats, 3-0, in the second half of a girls/boys doubleheader played Tuesday night, Dec. 10, at Lake Placid’s Roger Scarborough Memorial Field.

The Green Dragons banged away at the McKeel goal in the early going of the first half, with a number of shots parried by the Wildcat goalie and several more which caromed off the goal’s support beams.

Finally, with 26:33 showing on the clock, Cristian Resendiz fed one to Osvaldo Orduna who deftly headed the ball into the goal, 1-0 in favor of Lake Placid.

That initial goal was followed by a pair of spectacular saves at the Lake Placid goal by Alfredo Aguillon on penalty shots which were executed by McKeel in point-blank range of the net.

Then, at 21:10, Carlos Santana scored a breakaway goal from 30 yards out to give the Green Dragons a 2-0 advantage at the end of the first half.

Lake Placid’s Yoyi Gomez accounted for the Dragons’ final goal in the second half on an assist by Diego Mireles.

“Tonight’s win was an example of the team executing its game plan. We knew that using our wings would open the field and it did. This allowed our center mids and forwards to notch goals with many open looks for shots,” said Coach James Ashley following the contest.
