Despite a strong fourth-quarter rally which saw them nearly overcome a ten-point third-period deficit, the Lake Placid Green Dragon varsity boys went down to a 50-47 defeat at the hands of the Mulberry Panthers in a game played there Tuesday evening, Dec. 10. The disappointing outcome of the contest turned on a series of missed free throws in the waning minutes of the contest.
Behind Scott Colley’s nine points the Green Dragons took a 12-6 first-period lead. Colley hit a three-pointer and dropped in six out of six free throws. He added another trey in the second quarter which was augmented by a trifecta from Markyrie McCray and other scoring by Ramon Galaviz-Rinald, Marquavein Copeland and Evan Holden. At the halftime intermission Mulberry led by only one point, 27-26.
The Panthers outscored Lake Placid, 18-9, in the third quarter to take a 45-35 advantage at the end of three, but Mulberry didn’t figure on a rally by the Dragons in the final period which brought Lake Placid close to the lead.
Scott Colley paced the Green Dragons with a breakout, 19-point, performance. Marquavein Copeland, Kaetwon Lowe and Ramon Galaviz-Rinald added five points apiece. Isaac Neverson, Evan Holden and Markyrie McCray provided four each and Faleh Abuelouf chipped in with a free throw. Mulberry’s H. Berry led all scorers in the game with 21.
